MINNEAPOLIS, Oct. 15 (UPI) -- The Minnesota Twins Friday announced they have declined their 2005 option on shortstop Cristian Guzman.
It was one of a number of roster moves by the club, which also exercised its option on catcher Henry Blanco.
On its Web site, the team said catcher Pat Borders and infielder Jose Offerman have elected free agency in lieu of their outright assignments to the Twins' Triple-A farm team at Rochester (N.Y.).
The light-hitting Blanco, 33, batted .206 with 19 doubles, one triple, 10 home runs and 37 RBI in 114 games in 2004.
He established career-highs in games, at-bats, (315), runs (36), home runs and RBI, had a .991 fielding percentage, and threw out 23 of 52 (44%) runners attempting to steal.
Guzman, 26, batted .274 in 145 games, and currently is second on the Twins' all-time list for triples (61) in six seasons with the club.
His batting average with the team is .266.
