Former outfielder Otis Nixon jailed

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga., Oct. 15 (UPI) -- Otis Nixon, a major league outfielder for 17 years, was in a Georgia jail Friday after his bond from a previous arrest was not honored.

Nixon, 45, was taken to Gwinnett County jail Thursday after the company holding the bond decided not to honor it because of a missed court appearance.

Nixon was arrested early this year for allegedly threatening his bodyguard with a knife then released on a $3,350 bond.

Several weeks later, he was arrested and charged with misdemeanor sexual battery for allegedly fondling a woman. He was again released on bond, however, he failed to show up for a court date two days ago and a warrant was issued for his arrest.

Nixon batted .270 and stole 620 bases during his career with the New York Yankees, Cleveland, Montreal, Atlanta, Boston, Texas, Toronto, Los Angeles and Minnesota.
