CONCORD, N.C., Oct. 14 (UPI) -- Nextel Cup veteran Mark Martin says it's time for him to do something different -- but not just yet.
The Rousch Racing driver said Thursday he will compete for another year before retiring, becoming the latest racing star to announce retirement plans in the past few weeks. Rusty Wallace and Terry Labonte made similar announcements earlier.
"I've been out here chasing this thing for a long time," Martin said. "I'm very proud of what we've been able to do over the years. ... I never worry about the things that I haven't done, instead I focus on all the things that I've been able to do and that makes me very proud. For me it's just time to do something different."
Martin began his career in 1991 and has collected 34 Nextel Cup victories and 45 Busch series wins. The Arkansas native has been in the top 10 14 times and was series runner-up in 1990, 1994, 1998 and 2002.
He currently ranks fifth, 150 points behind Kurt Busch.
