SANTA CLARA, Calif., Oct. 11 (UPI) -- Linebacker Julian Peterson has been lost to the San Francisco 49ers because of a torn left Achilles tendon.

He suffered the injury in the first quarter of Sunday's 31-28 overtime victory over the Arizona Cardinals.

Peterson, a two-time Pro Bowler who was a holdout most of training camp, watched the second half of the contest from the sidelines on crutches.

"I had to support my guys because they'd do the same for me," Peterson said on the team's Web site. "All I can do is start getting ready for next year."

His replacement, Brandon Moore, recorded two tackles and stopped Arizona running back Troy Hambrick on an attempted two-point conversion run.
