
LOS ANGELES, Oct. 10 (UPI) -- The St. Louis Cardinals advanced to the National League Championship Series Sunday with a 6-2 victory over the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Jeff Suppan worked seven innings in his first postseason appearance and Albert Pujols hit a three-run homer for the Cardinals.
St. Louis won the National League Divisional Series, three games to one, and have advanced to their seventh National League Championship Series.
They will face the winner of the Atlanta Braves/Houston Astros series, which is tied at two games apiece. Game 5 of that series is set for Monday in Atlanta.
Suppan allowed two runs, two hits and three walks.
Pujols, who had four RBI in the game, drove the ball the left field seats in the fourth inning to put St. Louis up 5-2.
