Cards' LaRussa says not about to move

ST. LOUIS, Oct. 8 (UPI) -- St. Louis Cardinals Manager Tony La Russa says, he'll "manage for free" if the Cards win their first World Series championship since 1982.

La Russa has been mentioned as possibly seeking new surroundings after this season.

But, with the Redbirds flying high in the playoffs, he says: "If we win this thing, do you think I'd want to walk away from that?"

La Russa set aside a two-year extension offer from Bill DeWitt Jr., the general partner, in May for a number of reasons.

"I tell you what: If we win the world championship, I'll manage for free," La Russa said.

With managerial vacancies in Seattle, Philadelphia and the New York Mets and a likely opening in Arizona, La Russa would offer at least curb appeal for teams looking for a turnaround, the St. Louis Post Dispatch said,

The Cardinals currently are up 2-0 in their National League playoff series with Los Angeles.
