Oregon dumps feisty lineman

EUGENE, Ore., Oct. 5 (UPI) -- The University of Oregon has dumped an offensive lineman from Nebraska with a history of fighting, the Eugene Register-Guard reported Tuesday.

"Richie (Incognito) failed to meet some of the conditions I set forth for admittance to the team and so he's not a member of the team and never actually has been," Oregon coach Mike Bellotti said.

Bellotti, declining to specify the conditions Incognito failed to meet, said the Arizona native could remain on scholarship for the rest of this term, explaining it was against NCAA rules to revoke a scholarship "once you've awarded it, for a term."

Bellotti also said he would give Incognito "a blanket release" from his Oregon scholarship agreement so he could transfer immediately to another school, and Incognito was apparently trying to do that.

Incognito has a history of aggressive behavior, which led to his suspension from Nebraska. His most recent offenses were a misdemeanor assault last winter and an August altercation with a teammate in the dressing room.

Incognito also was ejected from a game while at Nebraska for a fight with an opponent, and other teams have accused him of spitting at defensive players.
