"Setting the all-time season attendance record is further evidence that this great sport has never been more popular," said Baseball Commissioner Allan H. (Bud) Selig. "We have had a great regular season and all of us in baseball are looking forward to a tense, dramatic and compelling postseason."

Seven teams set home season records: Anaheim, Boston, the Chicago Cubs, Houston, the New York Yankees, Philadelphia and San Diego.

The New York Yankees set a Major league record for road attendance (3,308,666), the first American League Club to draw more than three million on the road. The 2000 Cincinnati Reds set the previous mark of 3,016,074.
