Packers lose Pro Bowl center

GREEN BAY, Wis., Oct. 1 (UPI) -- The Green Bay Packers announced Friday they will be without Pro Bowl center Mike Flanagan for the rest of the season.

Flanagan will be put on injured reserve and undergo knee surgery. He tried to play through the knee problems, but Coach Mike Sherman said if Flanagan's career would be in jeopardy if he did not have his left patella tendon repaired.

Flanagan missed all but the last game of the exhibition season with what was diagnosed as tendinitis. He started the first three games of the regular season, but could not finish two of them.

Grey Ruegamer will replace Flanagan in the starting line.
