SAN DIEGO, Oct. 1 (UPI) -- San Francisco beat San Diego 4-1 Thursday to tie Houston for the wild card lead in the National League.
The Giants trailed National League West-leading Los Angeles by three games heading into a three-game series with the Dodgers.

Jerome Williams (10-7), the winning pitcher, allowed four hits and a run in seven innings.
J.T. Snow drove in one run and scored one for San Francisco.
Ramon Vazquez had two hits and scored the Padres' run.
Adam Eaton (11-14) was the loser, giving up eight hits and four runs in 7 1/3 innings.
