MLB: Seattle 4, Oakland 2

OAKLAND, Calif., Sept. 30 (UPI) -- Seattle beat Oakland 4-2 Wednesday, dropping the Athletics a game behind first-place Anaheim in the American League West.

Bobby Madritsch pitched all the way for the Mariners, allowing just three hits.

The Mariners, trailing 2-1, scored three runs in the eighth. The key hit in the rally was a two-run single by Jolbert Cabrera.

Eric Byrnes had two runs and two hits for the Athletics.

Rich Harden (11-7) was the losing pitcher, allowing eight hits, three runs and striking out eight in 7 1/3 innings.
