Vikings' Asher Allen retires at age 24
SAN DIEGO, Sept. 30 (UPI) -- Mark Loretta's bases-loaded fly ball in the 10th inning drove in the winning run for San Diego in a 4-3 victory over the San Francisco Giants Wednesday.
San Diego has won four of five. The Giants have lost four of six.
San Francisco is a game behind Houston in the National League wild card race. The Giants remained three games behind NL West-leading Los Angeles, which also lost.
San Diego relief pitcher Trevor Hoffman (3-3) pitched two shutout innings and got the win. The loser was Dustin Hermanson (6-8).
