Indians pitcher OK after gunshot wound

Denney was not seriously injured. He later joined his teammates in Minneapolis for a series with the Minnesota Twins.

The 27-year-old pitcher was hit in the right calf by a bullet fired into the team bus as it headed for Kansas City's airport after Denney and the Indians beat the Kansas City Royals 8-3.

At the time of the shooting, Denney was dressed in cheerleader garb as part of an initiation rite for rookies.

The costume included a pair of go-go boots. Because of the boot on his right foot, the bullet did not go deep and was removed on the bus by trainers, WEWS-TV, Cleveland, reported.

"It embedded in his right calf. Kyle's fine. He never lost consciousness, he didn't lose a lot of blood," Indians spokesman Bart Swain said.

Denney spent the night in St. Luke's Northland Hospital. He was treated and released early Thursday.

Denney was called up from AAA Buffalo Sept. 14.

Kansas City police were looking for the person who fired the gunshot.
