OAKLAND, Calif., Sept. 29 (UPI) -- The Seattle Mariners beat Oakland 7-2 Tuesday, leaving the Athletics tied with Anaheim for the lead in the American League West with five games to play.
The Mariners jumped off to a 3-0 lead in the first inning with a rally that included a double by Ichiro Suzuki, who had two hits and is within three of tying the all-time season record of 257.

Bret Boone hit a two-run home run for the Mariners.
Seattle starter Gil Meche (7-6) was the winner, allowing six hits and two runs in 6 2/3 innings. Tim Hudson (12-6) took the loss.
The Athletic and Angels have a three-game series coming up this weekend.
