Carolina to play without Davis

CHARLOTTE, N.C., Sept. 29 (UPI) -- The Carolina Panthers announced Wednesday they will be without running back Stephen Davis for Sunday's meeting with Atlanta.

Davis had arthroscopic knee surgery on Sept. 17 and although the original prognosis was that he would be out for up to five weeks, Coach John Fox had hoped to have him back next Sunday.

Davis will now try to return for a game against Denver on Oct. 10.
