Johansson wins opening match in Thailand

BANGKOK, Sept. 27 (UPI) -- Thomas Johansson of Sweden and Flavio Saretta of Brazil were among first-round winners Monday in the Thailand Open tennis tournament.

Johansson, a former Australian Open champion, eliminated the No. 6 seed, Spain's Feliciano Lopez, 6-1, 2-6, 7-6 (7-5).

Saretta defeated Prakash Amritraj of India 6-3, 6-3.

The tournament's top seed is Roger Federer of Switzerland. American Andy Roddick is seeded second.
