CARY, N.C., Sept. 24 (UPI) -- Craig Stadler shot a 7-under 65 Friday to take the lead after one round of the SAS Championship.

Defending champion D.A. Weibring and Wayne Levi were two shots back and Doug Tewell was alone in fourth with a 68.

Stadler leads the Champions Tour money list after capturing his last two tournaments. He got his round going Friday with an eagle at the par-5 seventh.

"I got off kind of shaky the first five or six," Stadler said. "But it's kind of what I've been doing. The days that I make some putts are the days I score well. I'm hitting it pretty good."

Larry Nelson, Gary McCord, Stewart Ginn, Des Smyth and John Harris all shot 69 while Raymond Floyd and Tim Kite were among those at 70.
