Mickelson withdraws from WGC event

PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla., Sept. 23 (UPI) -- Masters champion Phil Mickelson withdrew Thursday from next week's World Golf Championships-American Express Championship.

He became the third player to pull out of the tournament, which is open only to the top 50 players in the world, will be played at Mount Juliet Conrad in Ireland.

Kenny Perry and Nick Price have also withdrawn from the tournament.
