Vikings' Asher Allen retires at age 24

DENVER, Sept. 23 (UPI) -- Todd Helton and Jeromy Burnitz both had three hits Thursday as Colorado downed Arizona in the first game of a doubleheader, 7-1.
Jeff Francis (3-2) picked up the win, giving up a run on seven hits with eight strikeouts and no walks in six innings.
The Colorado starting staff entered Thursday's two games with an 8-1 record and 2.73 ERA in September.
Colorado scored three times in the first to take control. Clint Barmes singled and Helton walked, after which Andy Tracy and Burnitz contributed RBI singles. A ground out by Charles Johnson brought in the third run of the inning.
The Rockies batted around in the eighth to break the game open.
