Tanasugarn ousts Dokic in Beijing tennis

BEIJING, Sept. 21 (UPI) -- Tamarine Tanasugarn, Emmanuelle Gagliardi and Vera Douchevina were among first-round winners Tuesday in the China Open.

Tanasugarn, of Thailand, eliminated eighth-seeded Jelena Dokic 6-3, 6-0.

Gagliardi, of Switzerland, ousted Kristina Brandi of Puerto Rico 2-6, 6-4, 6-3 and Douchevina, of Russia, defeated Anca Barna of Germany 2-6, 6-2, 6-3.

In another match, Sandra Mamic of Croatia beat Chinese player Tian Tian Sun 6-4, 6-2.

Serena Williams of the United States is the top seed.
