Knee injury to end season for Croyle

TUSCALOOSA, Ala., Sept. 19 (UPI) -- Quarterback Brodie Croyle of Alabama suffered a year-ending knee injury Saturday night against Western Carolina and will likely undergo surgery Tuesday.

The junior from Rainbow City, Ala. made his 16th career start for the Crimson Tide. He left the 52-0 victory after the opening possession of the second half and did not return.

"I was just going to the sideline," Croyle said. "I went to plant and my knee just went out. This isn't how I imagined it happening, but I've been through it before and I'll start over again."

Before he suffered the injury, a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee, Croyle completed 14 of 22 passes for 160 yards and two touchdowns, moving him into seventh place all-time on the school's passing list with 288 career completions.

He also suffered a shoulder injury last season that caused him to miss two games and required off-season surgery.
