CHARLOTTE, N.C., Sept. 17 (UPI) -- Carolina Panthers starting running back Stephen Davis is expected to miss up to five weeks after having arthroscopic knee surgery.
The Charlotte Observer said Davis suffered a knee cartilage injury at the end of Thursday's practice.

Davis was used sparingly during Monday night's season-opening loss to the Green Bay Packers. Davis, last season's workhorse, carried the ball just nine times for 26 yards in the 24-14 setback.
He has gained 7,260 yards with 53 touchdowns on 1,710 carries in his career with Washington and Carolina. Davis also rushed for a career-best 1,444 yards last season -- his first as a Panther.
