MINNEAPOLIS, Sept. 15 (UPI) -- Carlos Silva pitched 5 1/3 scoreless innings before being hit by a line drive Wednesday night as Minnesota downed the Chicago White Sox, 6-1.

Silva (12-8) had given up one hit when a shot off the bat of Joe Crede hit him on the right ankle. Silva was replaced by Jesse Crain, who worked 1 1/3 shutout innings.

Minnesota increased its lead over Chicago in the American League Central to 12 1/2 games with 17 remaining. It was the Twins' sixth straight victory.

Chicago's Mark Buehrle (14-9) allowed five runs on six hits in seven innings.
