Marcus Vick gets suspended jail sentence

CHRISTIANSBURG, Va., Sept. 13 (UPI) -- Suspended Virginia Tech quarterback Marcus Vick pleaded no-contest in a Virginia courtroom Monday to a charge of contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

The 20-year-old Vick was given a suspended 30-day jail sentence, fined $100 and ordered to perform 24 hours of community service. The sentence was part of a plea agreement.

The charge resulted from a party at Vick's apartment where alcohol was given to 14- and 15-year-old girls. Vick was acquitted of a charge of having sex with one of them.

In August, Tech suspended Vick for the fall semester. Tech officials said he must complete a drug addition and counseling program before being readmitted.

"If there is any more trouble, his Virginia Tech career is effectively ended," Tech President Charles Steger said at the time.

Vick and two teammaters were arrested in February and charged in the incident involving the girls. One of the other players also pleaded no contest. The third player's case awaits a resolution.

Vick, who had pleaded guilty last month to reckless driving and no contest to marijuana possession in a separate case, is the younger brother of Atlanta Falcons quarterback Michael Vick.
