SEATTLE, Sept. 12 (UPI) -- The Boston Red Sox hammered the Seattle Mariners 9-0 in Seattle Saturday night, keeping the Sox 2 1/2 games behind the New York Yankees in the AL East.
Bronson Arroyo (9-9) allowed four hits, did not walk a batter and fanned six over seven frames. Mike Timlin pitched a perfect eighth inning, while Alan Embree allowed a hit in the ninth.
Ichiro Suzuki was 0-for-4.
Manny Ramirez got his 41st homer during the first inning to stake the Sox to the early lead -- he hit 45 with the Cleveland Indians earlier in his career.
Johnny Damon's 34th double of the season plated a pair of runs in the fifth inning, and Mark Bellhorn's 16th homer of the season made it 7-0.
Seattle starter Jamie Moyer (6-11) allowed five hits and seven runs over five frames.
