MLB: Philadelphia 9, Atlanta 4

ATLANTA, Sept. 9 (UPI) -- Jim Thome's put Philadelphia in front with a two-run double in the seventh Thursday night as Philadelphia downed Atlanta, 9-4.

The Phillies banged out 14 hits, four of them home runs.

Atlanta has lost four of five, but the Braves remain 7 1/2 games in front of Florida in the race for the NL East title.

Jimmy Rollins and Placido Polanco led off the game with home runs, the fourth time they have opened a contest with homers.

The game was tied at 4-4 in the seventh when Rollins had a one-out single and Polanco grounded out with Rollins moving to second.

Bobby Abreu was intentionally walked and Thome followed with his double that made it 6-4.

Atlanta lost a series for the first time in almost a month. The Braves are 17-2-3 in their last 22 series.
