Wendell Bryant supended for four games

TEMPE, Ariz., Sept. 7 (UPI) -- Arizona Cardinals tackle Wendell Bryant has been suspended for four games for violating the NFL's substance abuse policy, the team announced Monday.

Bryant was arrested on a drunken driving charge in June in Madison, Wis. Under league policy, the substance involved was not disclosed.

"Our No. 1 concern will be that he has an understanding of what the problems were and that he can deal with them in the proper fashion," Arizona Coach Dennis Green said. "We'll give a lot more precedence to him making sure he gets the work he needs off the field than we will on the field."

Bryant will not be allowed to take part in any team activities until at least Oct. 5.

The 6-5, 303-pound Bryant led the Cardinals in tackles last season. He was the team's first-round pick in the 2002 draft out of Wisconsin.

In his two-year career, Bryant has 27 tackles and 1 1/2 sacks in 26 games.
