SAN DIEGO, Sept. 7 (UPI) -- San Diego beat St. Louis 7-3 Monday and ended the Cardinals' nine-game winning streak.
The Padres scored four runs in the eighth inning to break open a tie game.

Brian Giles drove in two runs for San Diego, which stayed 2 1/2 games behind the Chicago Cubs for the National League wild card.
Edgar Renteria batted 3-for-4 for St. Louis.
Scott Linebrink (7-1) was the winner in relief, pitching 1 1/3 scoreless innings.
Cal Eldred (3-1) took the loss.
