
SAN DIEGO,, Calif., Sept. 5 (UPI) -- The Colorado Rookies recorded a 8-2 win over the San Diego Padres in the middle contest of a three-game set at Petco Park in San Diego, Saturday night.
J.D. Closser homered and drove in three runs for the Rockies, while Todd Helton also hit a solo homer and Jeromy Burnitz had a pair of RBI.
Shawn Estes (14-6) earned the win after allowing two runs on four hits, over seven innings. He walked four and struck out two.
"The first couple of the innings, I couldn't get any consistency with anything," Estes said. "But I ironed some things out. I was more aggressive with my fastball, and I got a lot more movement with it."
Khalil Greene drove in a run for the Padres, while Dennis Tankersley (0-5) took the loss after allowing six runs on six hits over 4 1/3 innings. Tankersley walked three while also fanning three.
