COL FB: Iowa 39, Kent State 7

IOWA CITY, Iowa, Sept. 4 (UPI) -- Drew Tate, starting his first game for Iowa Saturday, threw two touchdown passes to lead the No. 13 Hawkeyes to a 39-7 win over Kent State.

Iowa's defense, led by defensive back Chad Greenway, held the Golden Flashes to 110 total yards. Greenway had two interceptions, returning one 30 yards for a touchdown.

Albert Young rushed for 83 yards and a touchdown, and Aaron Mickens had a rushing touchdown for the Hawkeyes in the season-opening college football contest for both schools.

Jack Williams had a 99-yard interception return for a touchdown for Kent State.
