Bonds named NL player of the month

NEW YORK, Sept. 2 (UPI) -- San Francisco outfielder Barry Bonds and San Diego pitcher Jake Peavy were named Thursday as the National League player and pitcher of the month.

San Diego shortstop Khalil Greene was also named rookie of the month.

Bonds hit .414 with 11 homers and 27 RBI during the month. He led the league with a .615 on-base percentage, 1.000 slugging percentage and 38 walks. Over 27 games, Bonds recorded 29 hits in 70 at bats, including six doubles and a triple. He scored 27 runs and struck out only seven times.

It was Bonds' 13th National League player of the month award.

Peavy went 4-0 with a 2.03 ERA in five starts. He worked 31 innings and allowed 20 hits while striking out 32. He compiled the lowest ERA among all NL starters for the month.

Greene hit .320 with five homers and 16 RBI last month.
