MLB: Montreal 8, Chicago Cubs 0

MONTREAL, Aug. 31 (UPI) -- Livan Hernandez turned in eight shutout innings Tuesday to lead the Montreal Expos to an 8-0 win over the Chicago Cubs.

Hernandez (10-12) scattered three hits and struck out three for the Expos, who snapped a three-game losing streak. Brad Wilkerson and Maicer Izturis each homered.

Michael Barrett singled and walked for the Cubs, who finished with four hits and have lost four of their last five.

Endy Chavez and Wilkerson each had two hits for Montreal, which scored four in the first off Mark Prior.

Wilkerson led off the inning with his 26th homer. Chavez followed with a single and stole second. After Juan Rivera worked a two-out walk, Chavez scored on a double by Alex Gonzalez. Brian Schneider's RBI double to right capped the rally.

Prior (4-4), the Chicago starter, took the loss after permitting five runs on six hits in five innings.
