"It is a great moment for me," Saytiev said. "I was in very good condition and definitely it was my day. It's very difficult to survive in a competition like this one and I've worked hard to make it."

Khadjimourat Gatsalov of Russia beat Magomed Ibragimov of Uzbekistan to win the 86-kilogram class while American Daniel Cormier lost out in the bronze medal bout in that division.

Cormier fell to Alireza Heidari of Iran.

The other wrestling medal awarded Sunday went to Cuba's Yandro Miguel Quintana in the 60-kilogram class. He defeated Masuod Jokar of Iran.
