SAN JOSE, Calif., Aug. 29 (UPI) -- The San Jose Earthquakes and Colorado Rapids settled for a scoreless draw Saturday night at Spartan Stadium in San Jose, Calif.

Neither club had allowed goals in winning their last two matches.

Rapids goalkeeper Joe Cannon was called upon to make nine saves in recording his 10th clean sheet of the season as Colorado maintained its hold on third place in the conference.

San Jose's Todd Dunivant tested Cannon in just the second minute with a full volley, but the Rapids had their chances as well, with Alberto de la Torre bringing a good stop out of Quakes goalkeeper Pat Onstad. In the 11th minute Onstad pushed aside a close-range effort from Matt Crawford at the corner of the goal area.
