MONTREAL, Aug. 28 (UPI) -- Sebastien Bourdais had fastest time Saturday for the second day in a row in qualifying Sunday's Molson Indy Montreal Champ Car race.
The Newman/Haas Racing driver cruised around the 2.709-mile, 13-turn road course in one minute, 19.897 seconds (122.062 m.p.h.). It was his sixth pole of the season and 11th in his 28-race Champ Car career.
The win gives the Frenchman another championship point, his second of the weekend. Bourdais owns a commanding 58-point edge over teammate Bruno Junqueira (250-192). Paul Tracy is third with 180 points.
On the front row with Bourdais will be American A.J. Allmendinger. who had a time of 1:20.272 and held the provisional pole until Bourdais laid down his winning time on his final lap.
Starting in row two will be Mario Dominguez (1:20.316) and Junqueira (1:20.458).
Defending champion Michel Jourdain Jr. was 12th.
