Huggins back at Cincinnati

CINCINNATI, Aug. 27 (UPI) -- Bob Huggins was reinstated as men's basketball coach at the University of Cincinnati.

Huggins, 50, was suspended with pay in June after he was arrested for driving under the influence.

Police said his speech was slurred and he smelled of alcohol. Huggins pleaded no contest to the drunk driving charge and subsequently apologized to the school.

Former UC great Oscar Robertson had been serving as interim coach since June 20. Assistant Dan Peters had left the program to fill a similar post on the staff of new Ohio State Coach Thad Matta.

The statement on the school's Web site announcing the reinstatement of the sometimes fiery Huggins did not include a comment.

He has been head coach of the Bearcats for 15 seasons and has a career record of 542-191 over 23 years. His suspension lasted 76 days.

Huggins is ranked fifth nationally in winning percentage among active Division I head coaches and has guided UC to the NCAA Tournament in each of the last 13 seasons.
