HOUSTON, Aug. 27 (UPI) -- The New York Mets Friday traded right-handed reliever Dan Wheeler to Houston in exchange for minor league outfielder Adam Seuss.
The Astros originally selected Seuss in the 34th round of the 2000 draft. Seuss, who turns 24 Tuesday, had been playing for Class-A Salem of the Carolina League where he was batting .283 with seven homers and 64 RBI.
Wheeler was 3-1 with a 4.80 ERA in 32 games for the Mets and a 5.15 ERA for his career.
Wheeler (6-9) had been serving as a long reliever and spot starter and was a favorite of Mets Manager Art Howe.
With the Astros, he will be reunited with David Weathers, one of his best friends. The pair pitched together earlier in the season before Weathers was dealt to Houston in June as part of the deal that landed the Mets power-hitting outfielder Richard Hidalgo.
Wheeler has 46 strikeouts in 50 2/3 innings.
