Vikings' Asher Allen retires at age 24

DETROIT, Aug. 24 (UPI) -- Magglio Ordonez of the Chicago White Sox will be out for the rest of the season because of a chronic left knee injury.
Ordonez, who has been sidelined since July 22 with a bone marrow condition, played in just 52 games this season. That mark the fewest numbers of games he has played in since a late-season callup back in 1997.
White Sox Manager Kenny Williams reconfirmed Tuesday that Ordonez is not expected back this season.
Ordonez batted .292 with nine homers and 37 RBI to end his 2004 campaign.
