ATHENS, Greece, Aug. 23 (UPI) -- Misty May and Kerri Walsh reached the gold medal match in Olympic beach volleyball Monday with a victory in an all-American semifinal.
May and Walsh recorded their sixth straight victory by defeating teammates Holly McPeak and Elaine Youngs, 21-18, 21-15.
In the gold medal match Tuesday, May and Walsh will face 2000 silver medal winners Adriana Behar and Shelda Bede of Brazil. Behar and Bede defeated defending Olympic champion Natalie Cook of Australia and her new partner, Nicole Sanderson.
The Australians will take on McPeak and Youngs for the bronze.
The United States will win its first medal -- or medals -- in women's beach volleyball. On the men's side, however, the Americans will be shut out for the first time since the sport came into the Games in 1996.
