NEW HAVEN, Conn., Aug. 23 (UPI) -- American Lindsay Davenport pulled out of this week's $585,000 Pilot Pen Tennis tournament because of a wrist injury.

Davenport, who has tendinitis in her left wrist, has won her last four events, including last week's hardcourt tournament in Cincinnati.

The world No. 4, Davenport was last year's New Haven runner-up to fellow American Jennifer Capriati, this week's third seed. This year's field also features French Open runner-up Elena Dementieva and Wimbledon winner Maria Sharapova.

Davenport beat Russian Vera Zvonareva in Sunday's title match at the Western & Southern Financial Group Women's Open to record her 17th straight match win. She hasn't lost since giving way to Sharapova in the Wimbledon semifinals early last month.
