MLB: Seattle 5, Detroit 3

DETROIT, Aug. 22 (UPI) -- Willie Bloomquist hit a three-run homer Sunday to lead the Seattle Mariners to a 5-3 victory over the Detroit Tigers.

Bloomquist homered for just the second time in his career and also had a team-high three hits for the Mariners.

Brandon Inge drove in two runs on three hits for the Tigers, who fell for just the second time in their last six outings.

The Mariners trailed 3-1 before a four-run fifth gave them that 5-3 edge. Miguel Olivo and Jose Lopez led off with back- to-back infield singles and Bloomquist followed with his homer to left.

Gil Meche (4-5) pitched 6 2/3 innings for the victory. The 25-year-old righthander, who has pitched well in five starts since being recalled from the minors, yielded three runs on nine hits.

Mike Maroth (10-8) suffered his first loss since July 8 at Minnesota.
