FOUNTAIN, Colo., Aug. 22 (UPI) -- Dario Franchitti won Sunday's Honda Indy 225 at the Pikes Peak International Raceway, finishing 2.2429 seconds ahead of Adrian Fernandez.
The victory was Franchitti's second of the season and second of his IndyCar career.
Franchitti led early and was able to take back the lead on lap 132. From that point he led the rest of the way while completing the required 225 laps.
As the field went into turn two of the first lap, Buddy Rice, second in points going into the race, went spinning into the inside wall. Rice was done for the day after the crash and finished last.
When the race went back to green it was Tony Kanaan, the series points leader, who led. Kanaan held the top spot for the first 29 laps. On the next lap it was Franchitti who grabbed the lead from Kanaan.
