ATHENS, Greece, Aug. 21 (UPI) -- Bradley Wiggins of Britain won the men's individual pursuit Saturday, giving his nation its second cycling gold in as many days.
Chris Hoy earned gold in the men's time trials with an Olympic record on Friday.
Wiggins set an Olympic record Friday in qualifying and although his time of 4:16.30 Saturday was not as fast as the day before, it was enough to defeat Australian Brad McGee.
"It was the best race I ever had," Wiggins said. "My legs were very good. I had a great attitude and I was enjoying each moment."
Sergi Escobar of Spain finished third.
Also Saturday, Germany won gold in the men's team sprint by defeating Japan in the final. France, the defending Olympic champion, defeated Australia in the bronze medal match.
On the women's side, reigning world champion Sarah Ulmer of New Zealand shattered the world record and claimed front-runner status in the women's individual pursuit with a run of 3:26.400.
That was more than four seconds faster than Australian Sarah Ulmer's old mark set earlier this year.
