OTTAWA, Aug. 20 (UPI) -- Mario Lemieux, the Pittsburgh Penguins Hall of Famer, has been named captain of Canada's World Cup team.
The 2004 World Cup of Hockey will take place Aug.30-Sept. 14.

Lemieux also served as captain of Canada's 2002 gold medal winning Olympic squad in Salt Lake City.
Four other members of the 2002 Olympic team were named as alternate captains. They are Joe Sakic and Adam Foote of the Colorado Avalanche, Jarome Iginla of the Calgary Flames and Scott Niedermayer of the New Jersey Devils.
