JACKSONVILLE, Fla., Aug. 20 (UPI) -- Rookie linebacker Jorge Cordova has been lost to the Jacksonville for the 2004 season because of a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee.
He injured the knee at practice Wednesday and had to be carted off the field.
Cordova was a third-round pick from Nevada-Reno who was drafted for his pass-rush ability.
"We're counting on him to be a force on special teams and be a guy who can come off the edge for us and create some pass rush skills," Jaguars Coach Jack Del Rio told the Florida Times-Union. "The thing I encouraged him to do, it's hard to do, but he has to try to keep his spirits up and just focus on working hard, getting in shape and working toward next year. That's all he can do at this point."
Cordova already has been placed on injured reserve. No timetable was announced for his needed surgery.
