Singh now No. 2 in the world

PHILADELPHIA, Aug. 16 (UPI) -- Vijay Singh, who won a three-man playoff to take the 68th PGA Championship, was No. 2 in world golf rankings released Monday.

Singh now has 20 career PGA Tour titles and has won three major tournaments.

Sunday's win was his second PGA Championship title.

If he wins next week at the WGC-NEC Invitational in Akron, Ohio, he would overtake Tiger Woods atop the Official World Golf Ranking.

If Singh finishes ahead of Woods, or if the two are tied in any position outside the top 10, Singh would displace Woods at No. 1 next week.

Woods has held the top spot for a record 332 consecutive weeks.

This week, Ernie Els, who also could claim the top ranking at the NEC, is No. 3, down one spot. He fell just short of making the PGA playoff and has several scenarios for qualifying as No. 1 at the NEC.
