DAVIE, Fla., Aug. 14 (UPI) -- The three Florida-based franchises in the NFL Saturday combined to establish joint collection programs to aid hurricane relief efforts.
The Miami Dolphins and Jacksonville Jaguars collected monetary donations before their pre-season game Saturday night at Pro Player Stadium in Miami. A similar project was set for Monday night when the Buccaneers are scheduled to play the Cincinnati Bengals at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa.
That contest was postponed from Saturday because of the weather.
The Jaguars will have a collection before their pre-season contest in Jacksonville Aug. 20 against Tampa Bay at Alltel Stadium.
Also, it was announced Saturday that the family of Miami owner Wayne Huizenga has donated $1 million to Hurricane Charley relief and recovery efforts.
"I know that I speak for my family, as well as the entire Miami Dolphin organization, in extending our sympathy to the many families affected by this disaster," Huizenga said in a statement on the Dolphins' Web site.
