Japan wins two Olympic judo golds

ATHENS, Greece, Aug. 14 (UPI) -- Japan captured the first two Olympic judo gold medals awarded Saturday.

Ryoko Tani won the women's 48-kilogram category and Tadahiro Nomura won the men's 60kg for Japan's first two medals of the Games.

The women's silver went to Frederique Jossinet of France and the bronze medals were won by Julia Matijass of Germany and Feng Gao of China.

In the men's weight class, Nestor Khergiani of Georgia was the silver medal winner. The bronze medals went to Baatar Tsagaanbaatar of Mongolia and Min Ho Choi of South Korea.

Mongolia did not win a medal in Sydney four years ago after claiming two bronze medals in Atlanta.
