Woods rallies to make PGA cut

KOHLER, Wis., Aug. 13 (UPI) -- Tiger Woods needed a pair of birdies at 16 and 17 in Friday's second round of the PGA Championship to make the 36-hole cut.

In running his record to 129 consecutive cuts made, Woods posted a three-under 69 and reached the half-way mark at even-par 144. That put him nine back of the lead shared by Vijay Singh and Justin Leonard.

Woods started the second round at three-over par and . birdied the first two holes before running into trouble on the fifth. Trouble pretty well dogged him most of the way from there.

Woods birded the 16th, then the 17th when he got a great read from playing partner Singh's birdie putt. He rolled in the 20-footer to reach even-par for the championship.

The last time Woods failed to make a cut was the 1998 Pebble Beach National Pro-Am.
