Titans' Peter Sirmon out for season

NASHVILLE, Aug. 10 (UPI) -- Veteran linebacker Peter Sirmon of the Tennessee Titans will be sidelined for the 2004 season with a knee injury.

Sirmon will have surgery in the next few days, the Nashville Tennessean reported Tuesday.

The 6-2, 237-pound Sirmon has tears in the anterior cruciate and medial collateral ligaments of his left knee.

Surgery was recommended during a visit Monday with Dr. James Andrews, an orthopedic surgeon in Birmingham, Ala.

"We were afraid it was going to go that way and in fact it did," Coach Jeff Fisher told the newspaper.

Sirmon was injured in a non-contact drill last week. He was a fourth-round pick out of Oregon by the Titans in 2000. He had seven tackles and one forced fumble in 14 games last season and was due to start at right linebacker this season.
